Tokenized Capital Markets

Tokenized Equities Infrastructure

Five institutional platforms are launching tokenized equities within the same window: NYSE, Nasdaq, DTCC/Canton, Robinhood Chain, and Securitize. 24/7 trading, instant settlement, dollar-sized orders, stablecoin-based funding. This is the reference site for the infrastructure convergence.

Market Landscape

Institutional tokenization platforms

Exchange operator

NYSE / ICE

Developing a platform for trading and on-chain settlement of tokenized securities. Combines NYSE Pillar matching engine with blockchain post-trade. Working with BNY and Citi on tokenized deposits across ICE clearinghouses. DTC received SEC approval for tokenized securities Dec 2025. Launch targeted H2 2026.

Exchange operator

Nasdaq

Filed SEC rule change to allow tokenized securities trading alongside traditional securities. Issuer-centric token design puts public companies at the center of ownership rights and governance. Tokenized form vs. traditional form is investor's choice; DTC handles backend clearing/settlement. Trading targeted Q3 2026.

CSD infrastructure

DTCC / Canton Network

DTC authorized via SEC No-Action Letter to tokenize DTC-custodied assets: Russell 1000 constituents, ETFs tracking major US equity indices, US Treasuries. Partnership with Digital Asset on Canton Network. Daml smart contracts, CIP-56 token standard, JSON Ledger API. MVP targeted H1 2026.

Retail / fintech

Robinhood Chain

Arbitrum-based L2 for tokenized stocks and RWAs. 4M testnet transactions in first week after Feb 2026 launch. 200+ tokenized stocks and ETFs, standard Ethereum tooling. Alchemy, Chainlink, LayerZero, TRM Labs integrated. EU/EEA customers initially; mainnet planned later 2026.

Regulated ATS

Securitize

Launching fully compliant tokenized stock exchange Q1 2026. EU trading and settlement on Avalanche. Handles full lifecycle: token creation, investor onboarding, transfer agent, fund admin, secondary trading via ATS. Apollo partnership for on-chain CLO tranches (JAAA). 841% revenue surge in 2025.

Cross-chain infra

Chainlink Digital Assets Sandbox

Controlled environment for institutions (BNY Mellon, UBS) to trial tokenization. NAV data feeds, cross-chain settlements via CCIP v1.5. ACE integrates Proof of Reserve + Chainalysis KYT for automated KYC/AML compliance. ANZ Bank and Fidelity International already using CCIP.

Post-Trade Infrastructure

How tokenized equities settle

Settlement

Atomic DVP on-chain

Tokenized equities enable atomic delivery-versus-payment: the security and its stablecoin payment transfer simultaneously. No settlement risk, no T+1 delay. Smart contracts enforce the atomic constraint — neither leg settles unless both do.

Clearing

CCP and netting

Central counterparty clearing still applies — even instant settlement needs multilateral netting for efficiency at scale. ICE clearinghouses, DTCC's NSCC, and ClearToken are building tokenized clearing infrastructure. June 2026 Treasury clearing deadline drives urgency.

Identity

ISIN mapping and on-chain identity

Every tokenized security needs an ISIN (ISO 6166) for regulatory reporting. MiFID II mandates ISIN for all instruments traded on EU venues. The bridge between on-chain token addresses and off-chain securities identifiers is a critical infrastructure gap being filled by DTCC, Nasdaq, and GLEIF.

Stablecoin funding

USDC/USDT as settlement asset

Tokenized equities settle against stablecoins, not bank wires. NYSE platform uses tokenized deposits; Robinhood Chain and Securitize use USDC. This makes PPSI charter requirements directly relevant to equity settlement — the reserve backing of the settlement asset matters.
